The Fisher Community Awards

Helping Make Fisher the Place to be for Education, Employment and Retirement

We all know those local people who are giving something back – the leaders in our community who inspire us and who set the example for all of us to follow. We have them in our schools, in our businesses and community groups, in our health care providers and our aged care residences.

I want our part of the Sunshine Coast to be the place to be for Education, Employment and Retirement. That is why I have set up the Fisher Community Awards. I want to recognise those individuals and organisations who are leading the way in making that a reality with their contribution to our community.

This year's award ceremony took place on 21 March 2018, following a process of public nominations. After I had collected more than 100 nominations from local Sunshine Coast residents, I convened a panel made up of representatives of my Youth, Business and Seniors Councils to help me choose shortlisted nominees and winners from among the people who were nominated by you. Winners received a trophy and a prize at a special awards night on Wednesday 21 March.

The awards were for individuals or groups in each of the following categories who have made a significant contribution to our community this year:

Education:

  • Fisher Educator of the Year
  • Fisher Student of the Year
  • Fisher Education Provider of the Year

Employment:

  • Fisher Business of the Year
  • Fisher Employee of the Year
  • Fisher Innovator of the Year

Seniors:

  • Fisher Senior of the Year
  • Fisher Senior Community Group of the Year
  • Fisher Senior Support Service of the Year

I also selected the nominated individual or group that I believe has made the biggest contribution overall this year, and gave them an additional ‘Andrew Wallace Award’.
