Building industry could collapse under PI pressure

Tuesday, July 02, 2019

Within days $35 billion construction industry could grind to a halt and, outside a small but critical group of private building certifiers, no-one is even talking about it. Unless the State Government acts before June 30, builders will stop getting paid, buildings will stop being built, and already vulnerable subcontractors will go to the wall.

The biggest threat to our region''s prosperity

Tuesday, March 05, 2019

As you travel around the Coast today the evidence of our successful local economy is everywhere. The cranes and hi-vis vests of construction sites all over our region attest to the income and the jobs being created in our community right now. But I have lived on the Coast for 26 years, and I was involved in the construction industry for three decades, and I know how quickly that boom can turn to bust.

Tour de Fisher

Tuesday, March 05, 2019

In five days last week I cycled over 200km and stopped to speak to local residents in 26 different towns around the Southern and Central Sunshine Coast in my electorate of Fisher. I rode my pushbike to Mooloolaba and Montville, Pelican Waters and Peachester, Conondale and Currimundi and all the towns in between.

Monday, September 24, 2018

We saw wild and unhelpful speculation earlier this week from the Sunshine Coast Daily’s Scott Sawyer about what a leadership change in Canberra might mean for the billions of dollars of infrastructure which our Federal Government has committed to constructing on the Coast. Monday, July 02, 2018

The implications of the historic tax cuts the Turnbull Government has passed are at once practical and profound. The people who live in our electorate of Fisher will see the day to day benefits of the Turnbull Government in their back pockets straight away. But the values and beliefs that underlie these policies are fundamental to the weighty choice that will face all Australians at the next Federal Election. It is a choice between two visions for the future of our country and between two contrasting beliefs about the success that Australians deserve.

Turnbull Government funding of USC

Thursday, June 14, 2018

Contrary to misleading media reports today, the Federal Government is not cutting funding to the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC). Funding for teaching and learning at USC from the Federal Government is actually increasing by $7 million, from $165 million last year, to $172 million this year.

What the 2018 Budget means for Fisher

Thursday, June 14, 2018

he 2018 Federal Budget announced last month was another big win for the Sunshine Coast. We got some very large new commitments of funds for much needed local infrastructure, as well as important tax relief for low and middle income families, a long sought after change to the pension system, and a lot more money for small community grants locally.

Why I oppose a casino on the Sunshine Coast

Tuesday, February 27, 2018

It is now well known on the Sunshine Coast that I am strongly opposed to the Council’s proposal to allow the construction of a casino in its wholly owned Maroochydore CBD development, SunCentral. This opposition is based not only on my own views but on the views of credible experts, research and on my consultation with the Sunshine Coast community.
