Wallace responds to Sunshine Coast Exhibition Centre planning study
“I welcome the commitment of $700,000 by the Queensland Government toward the development of a business case for a Sunshine Coast Entertainment, Convention and Exhibition Centre in Maroochydore. Such a Convention and Exhibition Centre would be a much needed and long awaited development on the Sunshine Coast and would make a major contribution to our evolving community. I have always strongly supported the development of a proposal of this kind, providing that any such Centre does not include a casino. I note that just last week in Estimates Committee, the State Tourism Minister Kate Jones unequivocally ruled out the granting of a casino licence for the Sunshine Coast, so that is a tremendous win for the Sunshine Coast community.
I look forward to the outcome of the business case process, and I would ask the Queensland Government to expedite its completion on behalf of local residents. Providing that the eventual development proposed is practical and appropriate, I intend to lend my full support to the project, and to work hard in Canberra alongside my fellow Sunshine Coast LNP Federal Members to secure funding toward its construction.”
