$1,000 available to Sunshine Coast Students in second Ready, Set, Go! bursary

Students on the Sunshine Coast could once again benefit from a bursary of $1,000 to help them enter the world of work under the second round of Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace’s Ready, Set, Go! bursary. Applications are open for this second round from today until Monday 17 August 2020, after the first bursary was won by 16 year old aspiring Wurtulla sparky Tom Loane.

Mr Wallace said that Tom had shown what was possible with the Ready, Set, Go! bursary and that he was looking forward to seeing this round’s applications.

“Tom bought a full bag of the latest tools of his trade with this bursary and they have already opened doors for him. Tom tells me he was able to learn and do much more during his recent work experience because he had his own tools, and that is going to help give him an edge when it comes to applying for an apprenticeship next year. I hope to see many more applications like that in this new round.” Mr Wallace said.

The Ready, Set, Go! bursary is available three times a year to students living in the Federal electorate of Fisher who are in their final year of education and preparing to enter the world of work, including school leavers and university or TAFE students in their last year of study. In 2020, the bursaries will be specifically provided for students who are aiming to begin an apprenticeship or traineeship in the coming year.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created new challenges for all of us, so more than ever I want to make sure my Ready, Set Go! bursary is flexible and can reflect the real needs of local young people in their search for work. That means there is no prescriptive list which lays out what these bursaries can and cannot be used for. Tom applied for tools of his chosen trade but I’m keen to hear from local students about what will make the biggest difference for them.” he said.

Eligible students under the age of 25 living in Fisher can make an application for the second round of the bursary online at www.andrewwallacemp.com.au/readysetgo from Monday 3 August 2020 until 5pm on Monday 17 August 2020, explaining why they need support to prepare for the workplace and what they would use the bursary toward.

“I continue to hope this program will show that despite the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, a person leaving education on the Sunshine Coast doesn’t need to go anywhere to build the career of their dreams or start their own business. They can do it right here and they can have it all right here in the community they call home.” Mr Wallace said.
