Festivals Australia funding available in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Arts and culture organisations in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland could benefit from a share of up to $500,000 in the latest round of funding from Festivals Australia. Applications are now open for grants for festivals and significant one-off community celebrations which could help bring more tourists to the Sunshine Coast.

Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace encouraged local organisations to apply for the funding and help create bigger and better cultural tourism experiences in Fisher.

“In the last round of this program our community received funding to support Knitfest in Maleny. This grant ensured the event could go ahead in full and give more visitors to our region the chance to get hands on and learn a new craft. I want to see us build on that success in 2020.” Mr Wallace said.

Festivals Australia funds arts projects including parades, performances, workshops and installations to promote community engagement at local festivals in regional and remote Australia.

Mr Wallace said festivals are a highlight on the community calendar for people of all ages in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

“From Sculpture on the Edge to Celebrate Glasshouse Country, festivals and cultural events are a major element of our tourism offering here in the Hinterland, bringing new visitors to our community and highlighting our region’s cultural richness. With this funding local artists and groups would be able to deliver more projects that enhance local events with local stories that explore who we are.”

Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP said the Government was committed to providing opportunities to share and explore Australian stories and identity through the arts.

“Arts projects funded by Festivals Australia provide valuable opportunities for local artists to come together to share their works, and are a drawcard for tourists and local economies.”

Applications close on Sunday March 22 at 5pm.
