Time running out to apply for regional scholarship funding
Time is running out for Sunshine Coast education providers to apply for scholarships to support international and domestic students to study in the region, according to Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace.
Mr Wallace said the Coalition Government would provide scholarships of up to $15,000 a year to 4,720 students who chose to study at regional campuses from semester one 2020.
Mr Wallace said higher education providers in Fisher on the Sunshine Coast had until 11pm on Thursday 12 September 2019 to apply to offer scholarships through the Coalition Government’s $94 million Destination Australia program.
“Our Government wants the Sunshine Coast to share the benefits from Australia's $37 billion international education market,” Mr Wallace said.
“Attracting more international students to the Coast will create jobs and business opportunities, drive tourism numbers and promote cultural diversity.
“Destination Australia scholarships will help attract more students to our regions where they will gain both a valuable education and a unique insight into the life and culture of regional Australia.
“It also increases the chance that students who have spent a formative period studying and developing friends and local contacts will stay on to live and work in those regional communities.”
Tertiary education providers can check their eligibility and apply via Community Grants Hub. Successful providers will also be entitled to additional funding to allocate, administer and promote the scholarships to prospective international and domestic students.
